1. FM200 gas automatic fire alarm and extinguishing system

The FM200 automatic fire extinguishing system works with the combustible substance to absorb the heat of the fire. Prevents the chemical reaction of the combustion chain reaction. But especially FM 200 gas does not reduce the amount of oxygen in the air as low as the CO2 system. So there is still oxygen in the room and it doesn’t cause asphyxiation. Does not affect people remaining in the room when the spray system discharges. Therefore, FM200 gas is used in many fire fighting applications because of its safety.

1.1. What is FM200?

FM200 (FM-200™) is a colorless, odorless, clean gas containing carbon, hydrogen and fluorine commonly used to make gas fire extinguishers (FM200 Kidde Fire Extinguisher. Systems – Kidde Fenwal, FirePro Systems, Stat-X Systems,…). It does not destroy the ozone layer, does not harm electronic devices, does not affect human health.

FM200 gas has the scientific name Heptafluoropropane (1,1,1,2,3,3,3-Heptafluoropropane), Apaflurane, HFC-227ea, R-227ea, HFC-227 and the chemical formula is C3F7H

The gas FM200 does not contain chlorine or bromine atoms, has no ozone depleting effect. Its atmospheric lifespan is approximately 31 to 42 years. It leaves no residue or oil and can be removed by ventilation of the affected space.

1.2. FM200 fire alarm system:

Fire alarm system, FM200 fire fighting is a waterless system, it is discharged within 10 seconds of detecting a fire and suppresses the fire immediately.

Diagram, how to install Fire alarm system FM-200

Fire alarm system, FM200 fire fighting system includes the following components:

  • FM-200 gas canister (contains fire extinguishing agent)
  • Central control cabinet (where signal processing and navigation works)
  • Smoke detector (automatically detect, detect signal, transmit signal to control center)
  • Nozzle gas (injects air to put out a fire)
  • There are also other auxiliary parts such as: trigger head, pressure switch, bell, light, fire alarm,…

2. Working principle of FM-200 fire suppression system:

FM-200 works with combustibles, absorbs the heat of the fire to prevent the chemical reaction of the chain reaction, but especially does not reduce the amount of oxygen in the air as low as the CO2 system, so in The room still contains oxygen and does not cause asphyxiation, does not affect people remaining in the room when the spray system discharges.

Using FM-200 gas is very effective in fighting class A, B and C fires.

FM-200 gas will be compressed as a liquid in a pressure vessel along with N2 gas to ensure that when spraying, FM-200 gas will be pushed out to cover all the space in the room to be extinguished through the pipeline system. and 360° or 180° open air nozzles as gas.

The amount of FM-200 gas must be carefully calculated to ensure the necessary spray density, not exceeding the allowable threshold for an area with people of 10%.

The diameter of the air duct and the size of the nozzle are accurately calculated by the software support, so that the exhaust time of the system is not less than 5 seconds and not more than 10 seconds.

3. Operation mode of the FM-200 fire suppression system:

3.1. Auto mode:

The system will be activated after experiencing 2 warning levels:

Warning Level 1

When 1 of 2 types of detectors or smoke detectors, or heat detectors are in the same signal area, the control cabinet (control center) will give a signal warning level 1, this time the cabinet will affect The bell of that area is meant to warn people of a fire incident, and at the same time, the solenoid valve of the FM-200 system has not been affected. So the system FM-200 has not yet released air when the system warns level 1.
Warning Level 2

When both types of detectors (smoke and heat detectors) in the same area are affected, the control cabinet (control center) will issue a level 2 warning signal, at this time the control cabinet will activate the bell and the siren of the lights of that area, to warn people of a fire problem and the system to prepare to release gas

After a delay of 30 – 60 seconds (which can be customized by the cabinet programmer) enough for everyone to evacuate the hazardous area, the central cabinet supplies power to the control valve (solenoid) to activate Activate the FM-200 gas tank system. At this time, FM-200 gas is sprayed to extinguish the fire.

If within 30 seconds (since the alert level 2), if there are still people in the room or for some reason it is not possible to spray FM200 gas, you can press and hold the ABORT button of that area, to delay the activation of the fire extinguishing system control valve. When this button is released, the system will be activated after 30 seconds.

3.2. Manual mode:

In addition to the automatic release of FM200 as mentioned above, the system can be operated manually, when the EXTINGHUISHANT RELEASE button is pressed, the center emits a warning signal. horn operation of that area) discharge FM-200 gas into the area to be protected.

In addition to activating the fire fighting system, the central cabinet also provides contacts or 24VDC power to cut off the ventilation fan system, cut off the supply, and communicate with the building’s fire alarm system.

4. FM200 Fire Extinguishing System Application:

FM200 fire suppression system usually used in:

  • Data Center
  • Telecommunication facilities
  • Medical facility
  • Data processing devices.
  • Communication devices.
  • High value medical devices.
  • High value industrial equipment.
  • Library, museum, art gallery.
  • Server Room
  • UPS Room
  • Soundproof room.
  • Control rooms
  • Explosive storage area.

5. Main advantages of FM200 fire suppression system:

Safe for humans:

  • Safe for humans (heptafluoropropane is a colorless, odorless, and non-conductive compound composed of carbon, fluorine, and hydrogen. This compound extinguishes fires by chemically “interrupting” the combustion process without causing a fire. affects the amount of oxygen available, so it does not affect human health, so there is no need to move people immediately when spraying)

World Certified

  • (The FM200 system has achieved fire protection certifications in the world such as UL, FM, USCG (Marine system & Agent), NFPA 2001, BFPSA, ISO 14520…)

Device Safety

  • Do not damage property after extinguishing fire (because water, foam, and quick extinguishing are not used)
  • Environmentally friendly, does not affect the ozone layer (according to toxicological data assessment from the US Environmental Protection Agency – US EPA)
  • High degree of protection (FM200 is a stable compound as a liquid stored under pressure. When released the compound turns to vapor and mixes with air so that it can be released. spread to the furthest corners of the protected room. Only a concentration of about 7% by volume is sufficient to extinguish fires on surfaces. Immediate discharge after detection of fire by the system allows the system to reaction time less than 10 seconds)
  • Suitable for areas with special properties (review Application Where FM200 Fire Extinguishing System is commonly used)
  • Due to the low concentration of use (6.25%), to protect 1 room up to 20x14x3 m, FM200 system uses only 1 368L tank, does not use a complex manifold system just for multiple tanks)

Save money

  • Cost saving, economical (Just a concentration of about 7% by volume is enough to put out fire on surfaces)
  • Simple system, easy to control and use (basic FM200 system equipment is very simple including:
    • FM200 air tank
    • Trigger head
    • Pressure switch Nozzle
    • Pipeline
    • Smoke detector
    • And the control cabinet.

6. Technical standards are applied to FM-200 gas automatic fire extinguishing system

Based on the fire prevention and fighting laws on “Regulating the management of the State for fire prevention and fighting”, the following standards are applied to design the automatic fire fighting system:

  • TCVN 2622-1995 – Fire prevention and fighting for houses and buildings – Design requirements
